Steens Mountain Wilderness Resort

As our little town does have a small mercantile, gas station and a restaurant (they are open from mid-March to the end of October), we highly reccomend that all guests stop and pick up groceries and fill your gas tank prior to heading into Frenchglen.

If you are planning a late spring/early summer visit, please know that if mosquitos are bothersome to you or you will not put on mosquito spray, please do not come out here. We are surrounded by the Wildlife Refuge (marsh area) and snow melt is used to flood irrigate the refuge during the spring, hence mosquitos.

Please be aware that the gates are maintained, opened and closed by the BLM office in Hines. Oregon. There are 5 gates total and open and close at different times during the year, please contact them for status of those gates should your trip here be dependant on them. They do not keep the locals updated as to the opening and closing of those gates, so please give them a call.
